TGWAE: Now With Ads!

OLIA, TRANSLATE!! ^_^
But my ads will be in English, not Russian.

Instead of quietly rolling out my new BlogHerAds, I figured I'd just announce it in all its money-making glory.

So there it is. [points to the right column]

I've never put banner ads on any of my websites before because interrupting my website's design (you know, this beautiful white and orange theme I've got going on) with a random ad to make a few bucks was never worth it, but now that I appear to have a sizable audience, it might actually pay off. (We'll find out at the end of the month, I guess.) Some extra bit of income would be really helpful in the (rare) case that I move to NYC or want to splurge on some more photography equipment. ...Or, um, eat at a nice restaurant. Or eventually have to renew my web hosting bill. Basically I'm thinking of how ad revenues could pay for stuff directly related to this site, which makes me feel less bad about the overt commercialism.

Having ads may even encourage me to post more often. Because you know, It's all about page views, baby. Then again, my posting schedule is pretty regular (about twice a week) and I can't imagine what else I'd shove in between those too-long posts of mine. Hohum, it's a thought.

I suspect many of you read my site on a feed reader, in which case you won't be faced with ads. Yay! Not that I want to prevent you from visiting my site. Um. Please continue to come to my little corner of the web outside of your feed reader. :)

As a crappy reward, I present you with a video Tristan took of me talking about chicken (you might have to be logged into Facebook to view it). The context is that moments before he had pressed the "record" button on his camera, we had passed a take-out shop with a sign proclaiming the presence of ROTISSERIE CHICKEN. Apparently I make the word "chicken" sound cute. If I raise enough monies, maybe I can invest in a new segment called "boppyVision" during which I just say the names of foods in funny voices.

Hey, the ad is orange and white too! Yay! Hope you're able to make mucho moolah with the ad... do people have to click on the ad for you to earn money?

oh god, for a second, i was afraid you were going to say "chicken" the way that girl did in that mcdonald's commercial from a year ago. does anyone else remember this? she and a couple other dudes were in a car, and they were talking about chicken at mcdonald's, and she busts out with a "chikawwwwwn!"

Work it! New to your site but I'm loving it. I usually just ignore the banners anyway, but I hope you make a mint off of it. Let me know if I have to click on the link for you to make money though. I might be convinced to click on a banner from time to time.

Jesse: Haha, I noticed that one of the ads matched! Weeeird!

I don't think clicking helps, so don't worry about it. Just visiting my site is what does it. Wee!

Lauren: HAHA, I just said it in normal boppy-voice, I hope. haven't seen this McD commercial...euh, don't think I want to now.

Jai: Yup, IGNORE THE BANNERS!...wait, the one on the page right now says STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY; you can listen to that one.

You don't have to click on the ads. Unless you want to stop animal cruelty!

I hope my "cute" comment didn't ruffle any feathers. :S It was nice to finally put a voice to a face/blog. boppyVision? I'd watch that.

Posted by: Angeline at March 4, 2008 11:18 AM [#]

Doh, that video requires facebook. FB is taking over the world! Rest assured I shall check that video after work. And congrats on the ads!

Posted by: Danny at March 4, 2008 11:45 AM [#]

After reading and laughing over your "Google" ads before I was a bit sad to see the Blogher ads up, but at least you are actually gaining something by it instead of just... humoring us. I feel bad about my initial thought now. :D

I definitely would watch boppyVision and I liked the video!

Posted by: Doug Cress at March 4, 2008 2:34 PM [#]

Angeline: Oh no, I aim for cute!

Danny: FB owns EVERYTHING, it's horrible. It's a huge marketing tool that harvests all your information...but it looks nice and it works well. AHHH.

Christina: I hope I'm gaining something! Like $1 a day!!

Doug: WOOHOO, it works! EAT BUCKETS OF EM, BUCKETS!!

Hi there

I'm one of your many anonymous readers. I don't remember exactly how this happened, but I stumbled across your blog a couple months ago and have been reading faithfully ever since. I think that you're a super-duper funny person (your posts never fail to cheer me up and/or brighten a long night of work) and that your chicken voice IS amusing hehe.

(I hope this comment didn't come across as being too weird!)

Posted by: Jen at March 5, 2008 7:09 PM [#]

I love your blog, with or without ads!! Get EasyJet to place ads their orange & white colours should complement the colours of your blog, hehe JK.

Posted by: MariannaF at March 6, 2008 8:07 AM [#]

Steph: Aw, thanks. YES NO COMPLAINING FROM YOUU.

Claudia: Oh, my voice sets fear into the hearts of children. Wee!

Jen: You are no longer anonymous! I win!

No, not weird at all. I mean, I did make a chicken voice; I think that makes me the weird one.

Marianna: Haha, EasyJet would fit in so well! And I want plane tickets. -_-

I'll probably reply to your comment on this page. If you have something to ask me that's unrelated to this entry, please email me instead.

After you post a comment, please wait a while before checking if it has been posted. People frequently post the same comment twice by accident. I know that this has to do with the way my site sluggishly handles comments; Dreamhost probably put me on a pooptastic server. If you have any idea how to make MT speed things up, please let me know!

Help out roboppy?

If you do want to help me out monetarily, here are some easy non-obtrusive ways to give back:

- Buy stuff through my amazon ID!: This is the BEST WAY to help me out without throwing money at my feet. I buy most of my material goods from amazon.com, and it would help me shittons if you bought stuff through my link. I don't get much per order, but the referral fees can add up.
- buy t-shirts through my Threadless Street Team thinger!
- Get webhosting with Dreamhost.com and enter roboppy@gmail.com as the referral

You need stuff from amazon.com and you should buy t-shirts from threadless (I've been somewhat loyal to them for the past five years). Thank you for making sure I don't resort to pan-handling and robbery!

Canon 20D

The Canon 20D is my main camera as of August 2007, although I used to use the Rebel XT before that...and the SD 450 before the summer of 2006. You should also know that I "post process" all my photos in photoshop to make them suck less. Of course, you need a camera to take semi-decent photos first (it has a good macro mode), but without photoshop, I am nothing.
