Would You Like To Try (Some Steak And Shrimp?)

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. I meant to do a post last night, but ended up wasting the night away for various reasons. Which is why I'm posting this shortly after midnight when I should be sleeping.

For those who don't know, I blog at Serious Eats every day. Admittedly, my blog posts aren't anything like the ones I post here since it's not my main job—I'm mostly in charge of handling the site flow and editing posts. You don't have much time to write stuff when you're doing those things. But I usually post at least one thing, so if you're bored out of your mind and want to be involved in the daily life of 'Boppy, head to Serious Eats. Then I won't feel so...alooone...

Today I posted about this wacked out commercial for a steak house. I didn't get much feedback on it, but I dub it an "instant classic" because I've watched it so many times today that my IQ went down 20 points. Join me, won't you?!

If you didn't like that, we can't be friends. Sorry.

Ahahahaahaha... That really is a classic, although I wouldn't be able to watch it *all* day.

Thanks for that!

HAVE to tell you that this blog makes me snort-laugh more than almost anything, cept maybe 'Computer Camp Love'.
THANKYOU for the snort-laugh.
Yes it destroys my femininity, and makes me an unsightly spectacle. But giggles can never express amusement the way that a SNORT can ..
(ps. your photos make me eat too much ice-cream)

2.99 for chicken fried steak?
5.99 for all you can eat steak and shrimp?

am i the only one that finds the prices more outrageous than the commercial? haha even regardless of the quality of the food!

My ears? They are on fire right now, as are my eyes.

But yes, instant classic.

*sings* Chop. Steak. Chop. Steak.

Great way to start the day! But ...

Am I crazy, or did a wolfman walk out of that door behind the lady in the beginning ... ?

Posted by: Julie at February 1, 2008 9:26 AM [#]

Laynie: NOO IT MUST BE WATCHED ALL DAY LONG.

Anne O: This video totally brings the snorts.

You can't eat too much ice cream!

...Okay, maybe you can. Euh. You only live once, whatever.

Vince: I think these prices are a few decades old, hehe. YOU CAN'T BEAT THOSE PRICES!!

Danny: This commercial definitely makes all your senses...burn. With loooove!

Mikey: IT'S SO CATCHY!!!

Julie: That's one of my favorite parts! They paid close attention to detail, eh?

I wish i made that commercial.

Posted by: Olivia at February 1, 2008 1:26 PM [#]

The secretary-ish lady at the beginning and end sort of makes me want to punch her. In a good way. If that is even possible. hahahaaaa.

This commercial is hilarious. Why aren't there commercials like this anymore? :(

I produced this spots and the sequals to them back in 1981-82. You can see the sequals on YouTube if you type in mresourcegroup. The sequal titled: Bob Henry Live is posted for your enjoyment. This spot was produced in one hour for $60. Sometimes I feel like the Ed Wood of tv production. The wolf at the beginning was just something I tossed in at the last minute. Enjoy!

Posted by: Brian at February 1, 2008 9:45 PM [#]

Olivia: PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO LIKE THIS ONE, IT WOULD MAKE ME REALLY HAPPY.

Steph: That lady is awesome. But yeah. Kinda wanna punch her!

I hope the advertising world is listening: more commercials like this would be nice.

Brian: Thanks for the the info! And the wolf. This commercial has brought joy to THE WORLD, seriously.

wow. it's even better than head on.

maybe you didn't get too much feedback on it b/c people can't watch vids at works?

Posted by: dana at February 2, 2008 11:58 AM [#]

I'm so glad I read the comments before taking off for Twin Falls - I'm a sucker for anyone who has an award (a plaque!) all his own. And the wolfman was a wonderful tone setter. But I guess Brian's comment destroys my hopes . . . regardless, I'm grateful to him.

I don't even know what just happened.

But I think I like it. Compelling and rich.

Posted by: Kate at February 2, 2008 12:58 PM [#]

LOL! I love it! Tactful people! Bravo! I wonder if their advertising actually worked. Well I do know it worked on me (AND YOU!!!) Did it get people to want to have some of their steak and shrimp? Hahaha. But to tell you the truth their food doesn't sound too appetizing. BUT THEY'RE GENIUSES!WHO DOESN'T LIKE FOOD MADE (OR SELLED, OR ADVERTISED BY GENIUS AND TACTFUL PEOPLE?) The commercial makes me happy! Though doing a commercial like that myself would make me lose some of my dignity. THANK GOD YOU FOUND THAT THING! How did you find it anyway? Now I have some inspiration thanks to you and BOB!

SORRY IF THIS IS A DOUBLE POST!!!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY COMMENT TO LOAD!!!
NOT IF IT'S ABOUT BOB!!!

Posted by: Violet at February 2, 2008 1:15 PM [#]

Wow! The kids menu is only 99c.

Posted by: Graeme at February 2, 2008 3:18 PM [#]

lolZ0rZ! That's was oddly amusing... Then again, I like Napoleon Dynamite so it doesn't surprise me. =D

Posted by: Christina at February 2, 2008 5:44 PM [#]

Violet: Yes, the advertisng did indeed work. The format at the restaurant had customers stand in line, order their food then walk up and pick up the order after the order was ready. Bob would work behind the counter and often times people would tell him how "awful" his commercials were as they ordered their meals. Despite that, sales skyrocketed. There's an old saying: "Don't care what people say about me. Just as long as they're talking about me". This applied to the PC ads.

Posted by: Brian at February 2, 2008 5:47 PM [#]

I don't even know what to say, but that was FUNNY! Unbelievable. Whoa...

Posted by: Krissi at February 2, 2008 10:33 PM [#]

Brian: That's good to hear. I'd probably tell you that you're lying if you said it didn't. Haha! That still doesn't change my mind on losing dignity doing a commercial like that. Though it would make me happy to know that I inspire people. Oh there's a sequel? OH GOD! (Goes to youtube and watches it. Leaving poor Brian behind) Hah! This post is too long anyway!

Posted by: Violet at February 3, 2008 4:04 AM [#]

This commercial makes me wish I lived in the 60s, really it does.

Posted by: Angeline at February 3, 2008 5:03 PM [#]

Angeline: Why the 60's? The ads were produced in 1981 and 1982.

Posted by: Brian at February 3, 2008 10:19 PM [#]

My IQ went up 20 points...

Posted by: cambrian at February 4, 2008 4:30 AM [#]

Dana: Well, people can read Serious Eats when they're not at work...so...euh?

Marsha: I wish I had a plaque. :(

Kate: You don't need to know what happened. You're just left with this feeling of enlightenment.

Violet: Haha...holy crap you really liked it! I mean, that's only natural.

Graeme: I KNOW, IT BLOWS MY MIND AWAY!!!

Christina: Uh, I LOVED Napoleon Dynamite! WOOO!!

Krissi: And 99 cents for a kids meal can't be beat.

cambrian: It'll go down 20 points after reading my next entry then.

- Get webhosting with Dreamhost.com and enter roboppy@gmail.com as the referral

You need stuff from amazon.com and you should buy t-shirts from threadless (I've been somewhat loyal to them for the past five years). Thank you for making sure I don't resort to pan-handling and robbery!
