The Girl Who Ate Everything

Blogging about food and whatever since 2004.

Thank You For Your Food Blog Award Nomination!

Saveur's website doesn't actually have a giant happy face on it. That would be weird.

I know my blogging has become more and more crappy (i.e., less and less frequent) during the past few months, which is why I was so surprised to hear I was nominated in's Best Food Blog Awards 2011 in the category for "Best Restaurant/Dining Coverage." And when I say "so surprised" I mean I stared at my screen sort of blanked out while thinking, "What the heck?...[click]...wait, what...[click]'d this happen?"

Thank you to anyone who nominated me for the award (and for reading my blog in general)! It's a great honor. An honor that fills me with motivation to get better at this—and fills me with the guilt and dread that I may never get better at this. (Not to dwell on the negative or anything, but that's how I roll.) And while I know that I should feel more confident about my blogging abilities because some of you felt compelled to nominate my blog and the editors deemed it worthy enough to make it to the six finalists, I can hardly believe it got that far.

I'm far less surprised by the group of heavyweights I'm up against: Immaculate Infatuation, kevinEats, Skillet Doux, The Delicious Life, and The Ulterior Epicure. I realize the next thing I say will undermine the support you and Saveur have given me, buuuuut I think you guys should vote for one of those blogs, not mine. The support you've given me to get this far is enough to make me implode with happies. If I got a bunch of votes, I'd just feel bad about taking votes away from other blogs who are more worthy of winning. I hope that sounds reasonable. My god, I've only updated this blog ten times since the beginning of the year. What the heeeccckkkuuuuhhh.

As for why I haven't updated that much, welllll, in my head that post about Paris counted as five posts (I know, it totally doesn't) and I felt pooped out on blogging. A more recent reason is that Kåre has been in New York City since last Saturday (he's visiting me until next Saturday), so pretty much all of my free time has been going to him, understandably. And it's not going to get much better; I'm very likely visiting Sweden next month (more info on that soon), work is not going to get lighter, I'm falling behind on my photos, and....uh....crap, writing this all out makes me realize how much fail this blog is going to experience.

....So...anyway....[slowly tiptoes backward]...

Thank you so much again for your support! As a testament to how slow I am, the award nominations came out almost two weeks ago and I'm just blogging about it now. You have until May 12 to vote. Four more days. Um. GO VOTE NOW, GUYS. There are lots of great blogs covered in their 17 categories, so put your voting power to good use!

Weee! You're finally going to Sweden!? I've been hoping you would for so, so long. Sorry... but now you absolutely have to blog about that trip.

Oh, i am Swedish myself if that wasn't clear :-) hope you'll like it here!

Lizzi / May 8, 2011 4:29 AM

Rock on, homegirl! You've got my vote... I can't think of anyone more deserving :)

That's hugely exciting about Sweden, too. Given my car and all my furniture come from there (and the fact that I quite regularly consume my own weight in Swedish Fish), I can't help but feel *~*~*~connected*~*~*~* to anybody from there.

You do, however, need to get yo' ass to Australia soon. I've been reading your blog for yearssssss I'm sick and tired of you so blatantly shunning the Southern Hemisphere. I need a partner in food-crime and I suspect you'd fit the bill fabulously ;)

:) i don't know why you're so surprised, of course you'd have been nominated for this! I admit that I nominated you on this a recent while ago, and I'm sure a ton of others did too. Going now to vote...fingers crossed that you win!

Rodzilla / May 8, 2011 8:24 AM

soooo who do you recommend we vote for? :D kidding, kind of. I'll be checking back to read more about Swedish meatballs, err plans.

Nicholas / May 8, 2011 11:34 AM

more deserving? Screw that. None of those blogs are more deserving (no offense to any of them. Well... maybe a lil). Yours is one of the few blogs I actually bother reading on a consistent basis and definitely one of the few that compelled me to start writing. So thanks!

The only thing I could ever complain about is the... er... infrequency of posting *whistles*, but I know how you roll IRL so I can understand/can't be blamed haha

Maggie / May 8, 2011 11:56 AM

Oh, Robyn. You are such a rock star and you should just KNOW IT. Whether you post frequently or not-so-frequently, your blog is fun to visit, and so beautiful.

long timer / May 8, 2011 4:36 PM

for god's sake, blog more. don't even bother writing paragraphs. or sentences. bullet point it, if you must. i want pictures and few words. no joke. i've been reading your blog SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. AND BACK WHEN I LIVED IN NEW YORK. now i live in texas. what the fuck. i'm a long-timer and i'll probably continue reading until i die.

maja: I'm sure I'll like Sweden! :) It's actually a work-related trip, so I'd blog about it on and not here, but maybe that's good cos it ensures I won't wait like..5 months to write about it. Siiigh.

Lizzi: Ah, I too have the Ikea connection. :) But not the car one. However, Volvo is the one sponsoring the trip, so..uh..I love em now, even if I've never driven their cars. :)

I'd love to go to Australia someday! It's just SO FAR AWAY. What the heck! Okay, that shouldn't stop me.

inafryingpan: Aw man, thank you!

Rodzilla: I don't wanna play favorites...doodeedoo...although I will say out of the whole list of nominations, I know the Ulterior Epicure the best.

I'm looking forward to eating Swedish meatballs...IN SWEDEN.

U-E: Thank you!

Nicholas: Ah, I didn't know I compelled you to start writing!..or did I..well, I know now. Just never fall into my pattern of, like, not updating. Yeah. Hopefully Google will give you more leisure blogging time? :)

Maggie: Aw, thank you so much!

long timer: BULLET POINTS, COMING YOUR WAY!! That would make life easier. Hm. [strokes chin] But your fervent loyalty should be rewarded with complete sentences! Or a blessing of magical powers.

For photos, I update my flickr pretty regularly. I'm only a few weeks behind instead of like...5 months!

serena: Thanks!

Woot! Congrats, Robyn! I've read a lot of food blogs in the past decade, and yours is one I look most forward to reading even if you don't post prolifically.

Angeline / May 10, 2011 9:05 PM

Hmmm... I hope there will be more posting after your trip to Sweden!! Funny that you mention Volvo, whenever people find out what I do they ask me what colour my Corolla is or if I'm saving up for a Volvo.

Also, consider yourself voted for (by me). End incoherent rambling.

See, what separates you from all the rest is your spirit, which shows in all your writing. Your blog is fun to read because it seems like it's fun to BE you. The others seem kinda whiny, a little? pretentious, and they take themselves WAY to seriously. Keep up the good work.

Sewon / May 14, 2011 12:50 PM

CONGRATS on the nomination and I'm definitely going to vote for you! I still kick myself for getting lost & being too late for our felafel meet that Tristan was trying to organize. P.S. Whenever I take a bite of something delicious, I think about the way you photograph the ~innards~ and I try to get a photo before I gobble up everything. :)

roboppy / May 16, 2011 5:58 PM

bionicgrrrl: Thanks! :)

Angeline: Thanks!

cash: Thank! It is fun to be me. Except when I'm wheezing.

Su-Lin: Thanks!

Sewon: Thanks! I hope there will be falafels in our future someday? ;_; Taking photos of those innards helps slow down the mouth stuffage. I'm glad I got in the habit of doing it, even if it's..sort of weird. :)

is all i have to say! You have absolutely no need to go apologist in the face of "heavyweight" bloggers. You represent the hungriest among us just fine, and this post is no exception.

roboppy / May 17, 2011 10:59 PM

Serena: Thanks! I should make a post about that. I'm so slooow.
